Getting into this poetry

Her smile told a story only memories would hear,
her eyes speak volumes a hundred years later.
She was a shining star in a world dissolving around her,
And I truly believe there was no duchess greater.

I know that sounds silly, but it is true to my heart.
And forgive the length, I have limited time and patience for rhymes.
Hope you enjoy it anyway :)

A poem for Maria

A Russian girl,
once stood here,
among the tall trees;
she had rose petals in her hair
and grass against her cheeks

But she did not care;
why should she care?
She was not a Grand Duchess,
her father had given up the throne
she could do what she liked
for a few minutes more

And then her mamma came
and told her the news.
They were leaving for Siberia
in about a week

Barely a year
was left for her to live;
and on July 17th
she was shot

no flowers were put on her grave,
but her memory is still with
that one meadow
in Tsarskoe Selo.

A painting she made as a young girl, and my favorite picture of her I've ever colored myself.

Maria, such a beauty you were, sparkling eyes of blue and long brown hair. You were Russia's Angel, so delicate and fair. A dreamer you were little Mashka, which suited your big heart. You loved all those around you, and from your family you never would part. 21 steps down, and that sealed your fate. You didn't know what would happen, until it was too late. So dream Grand Duchess, that is what we pray. At peace in the arms of the Lord, is where you now stay.

I wish I could know her

I obviously can't know what she was like at all. I can only dream of how she would be. I dream her to be wonderful, with the flowing long hair and the big blue eyes I've tried to recreate over and over again in my mind. I don't know why she fascinates me so. She was just a pretty girl, living in a wonderful world that was pulled from her unfairly. But somehow, I can't get her out of my mind. And I'm proud. If anyone ever needs a personal Romanov historian, I can be their girl. So I will wait until my obsession can be used to help someone.

Death came all too soon.

She was discvovered along with Alexei near a bonfire, very close to where the rest of the family was "buried". The confusion of whether the bones were Anastasia's or Maria's soon came to a halt, when they discovered the body was 5'7" tall. Maria was this height, taller than all of the rest of her sisters. Anastasia was about 5'2". Even a miscalculation would not have yielded this result. it was Maria's body
